The Home Renovation Rebate and CleanBC Better Homes Rebate Program have updated their heat pump efficiency requirements, effective January 1, 2023. The new requirements accept heat pumps tested under either HSPF/SEER or HSPF2/SEER2 standards, with a minimum HSPF ≥10.00 or HSPF2 ≥8.5 and SEER ≥16.00 or SEER2 ≥15.2. A qualified product list can be found on the program’s website.
Homeowners in Salt Spring Island, BC can take advantage of these rebates and receive up to $7,000 in combined rebates by replacing their current electric heating system with a heat pump. This includes up to $2,000 from BC Hydro and up to $5,000 from the Canada Greener Homes Grant.
Heat pumps are a more energy-efficient option compared to traditional heating systems, as they transfer heat instead of producing it through fuel or electricity. There are different heat pump options available for homeowners, including ductless mini-split, ductless multi-split, and central ducted heat pumps, with rebates ranging from $1,000 to $2,000.
To be eligible for rebates, the heat pump must be on the eligible product list, replace a primary electric heating system, and be appropriately sized for the home. The heat pump must also be installed by a member of the Home Performance Contractor Network (HPCN) with both the indoor and outdoor units being new and in good condition.
Homeowners switching from natural gas, oil, or propane heating systems may be eligible for up to $11,000 in combined heat pump rebates. The application and all supporting documents, including the invoice, must be submitted within six months of the invoice date to be considered. Reviewing the eligibility criteria and installation requirements is important to ensure eligibility.
Now is an excellent time for homeowners in Salt Spring Island, BC to upgrade to a heat pump and take advantage of the current rebates offered. Contact Energy Werx BC for more information on heat pumps and how to apply for the rebates.
